A Dream Come True

Something that I’ve only dreamed of took place this past weekend. My sister, Mijai, and I finally met our big sister, Christina, for the very first time!!!

You see, Christina lives in Virginia and well, we reside in Michigan. Since we have different moms (and live in different states), we were limited to keep in touch via Skype, FaceTime and text/call.

For so long, nine years to be exact, we’ve been trying to meet one another in person. Every time we tried to set something up, it’s almost as if stuff kept getting in the way.

Earlier this year, I recall a conversation Christina and I had over the phone. We were both expressing how we were tired of conversing through apps and wanted to make this dream become a reality. I remember telling Christina, “girl, I’m foreal coming to see you this summer–I don’t know how, but it’s going to happen.”

Little did I know how soon God would move.

A Sister Reunion

A couple of months had passed and we were already organizing our “sister reunion”. After a lot of planning, we finally decided to meet at a halfway point between Virginia and Michigan: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! I asked my friend, G, if she would tag along with us and she happily said yes. From there, we were headed our way towards PA!

Pittsburgh is approximately a four hour and 10 minute drive from Michigan. The ride was quite smooth and surprisingly, we only had to drive through one state (Ohio) to get to Pennsylvania.

Once we entered our hotel room, Christina notified us that she would arrive within the next two hours, due to traffic.

The whole time while waiting for my big sister, a lot of emotions began to flood. I was excited, nervous, anxious–I could not sit still, lol. I kept finding myself looking through the peephole to see if Christina was there, even though I knew she wasn’t.

Just when I thought I couldn’t wait any longer, we heard a knock on the door. I opened the door so quick and boom, there she was.

I. Went. Crazy.

I have never experienced what I felt before. Everything was a blur and every time I tried to speak, nothing would come out. I couldn’t believe that my big sister was standing right in front me. This was something I’ve been praying for.

Sisters

After we all said our “hello’s”, we decided to do some exploring around the city. One of my favorite memories from our “sister reunion” would have to be when we went to an upscale, prime seafood restaurant called Eddie V’s. Not only was our waitress the best, but the food was superb. 10 stars. Hands down.

Just as we were about to leave the restaurant, our waitress (Ashley) placed spoons and plates in front of us. I asked her what she was up to…

Her response: “noooothinnnggg.”

Almost instantly, two bowls filled with desserts were placed in front of us. One said, “we are family” and the other one said, “sisters”.

I lost it.

Our story had moved the restaurant so much so that they wanted to do something special for us.

The next day (Saturday), the girls and I did a lot of walking in the downtown area. One thing that I noticed about Pittsburgh is that this state is really big on families and love. Everywhere we turned, we either seen a mother and father with their children or brides and bridesmaids. It was absolutely beautiful and I felt like we fit right in.

We also did a lot of shopping that day and ended up eating at a restaurant called Sienna Mercato. Once again, 10 stars. My goodness.

Sunday arrived before we even knew it and there we all were, hugging Christina goodbye. It was actually really sad. Who would have known that an unfamiliar state to us all would change our lives forever?

This past weekend are memories that will remain in my heart.

I finally met my sister, y’all!!

To Christina, thank you for everything you did for us this weekend. I love you so much and I miss you like crazy already.

To my readers, thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read this post.

Until next time, my loves.

Xoxo

Sincerely,

Shae
